Teaching Practice Testimonials

"I felt supported by all GPs at all times"

I had the pleasure of being a GP registrar at South Mudgee Surgery for a year and had a great experience. I felt well supported by all the GPs there at all times, who were always happy to discuss any cases of concern and provide advice. No matter how busy the day was they would always have time to spare if any help was required. The nurses are all very experienced and provide a wealth of knowledge as well, and the reception and admin staff were all a delight to work with. There is a lovely sense of camaraderie and teamwork, and you never feel like you’re working alone. The practice itself did get busy at times but that meant plenty of opportunity for learning and exposure to a variety of patient demographics and clinical presentations. I would definitely recommend South Mudgee Surgery to any registrars looking to do some time rurally.

"I couldn’t have asked for a better practice"

South Mudgee Surgery was such a welcoming surgery from the moment I first visited Mudgee. In my 12 months as GPT1 and GPT2 I couldn't have asked for a better practice. With all the doctors always being very happy to teach, I felt very well supported during this placement.  The staff are all extremely friendly and accommodating- even for my needs in travelling back and forth from Sydney. I would highly recommend this practice as a placement.

“The town is beautiful with lots to do during your free time”

I completed my first and second term as a GP registrar at South Mudgee Surgery. It was a well supported environment with friendly staff that are always willing to help with any obstacles I came across. The town is beautiful with lots to do during your free time. Overall, I had a great year living in Mudgee and working with such a great team.

"A great place to live and work"

I am a Sydney University graduate, with ten years of experience in NSW hospitals in fields as diverse as Critical Care and Pathology.

I am looking forward to commencing my GPT3 term at South Mudgee Surgery.  I have spent my previous two terms here and have been very happy with the teaching and support that I have received.  The Practice is a friendly environment in which to work.  The other doctors and the Practice staff are always willing to help and are very experienced with Registrars.

When I started GP training, I realised just how much there was to learn and I really appreciate the structured way that my responsibilities has been gradually increased, while I have gained knowledge and experience on the job and at BME workshops.

I have been fully supported when it comes to teaching sessions and leave to undertake workshops or community visits, and I have been treated fairly with my pay and conditions. There is also plenty of scope for developing procedural skills if you have an interest in that area.
The town of Mudgee is a very pleasant place to live and work. I have found the people welcoming, friendly and grateful for the fact that new doctors come to their town.

Considering its proximity to Sydney, it is a nice surprise to be able to complete an outer rural term here.
I would strongly recommend South Mudgee Surgery as a placement.

“An excellent learning experience”

The term I spent at South Mudgee Surgery was an excellent learning experience. I really enjoyed the diversity of General Practice patients, with the opportunity to manage more complex medical problems compared to my urban terms. The on-call was busy but not too frequent, with all the variety you would expect from Emergency Department. I was well supported clinically by the GPs in the practice and had regular blocked-off teaching time.  Practice staff made me feel very welcome and I enjoyed the team atmosphere.  Mudgee is a beautiful town, ther is plenty to do with good cafes, beautiful cellar door wineries and amazing national parks nearby.  I would love to retun if my circumstances allow and would recommend South Mudgee Surgery to other GP registrars.
